Luxembourg recorded another nine deaths from Covid-19 on Monday, as high infection numbers continue to translate in a higher death toll, which now stands at a total of 321 since the start of the pandemic.
Yet the number of active infections has steadily come down from a 12 November peak of well above 10,000 and now stands at around 8,200 cases. The number of people in hospital has never been materially higher than during the first peak, and now stands at 215.
The number of new infections was also relatively low at 139, though the number is often low on Mondays because few tests take place on Sundays.
There were more than 500 new infections on both Saturday and Sunday, above the mark that led to Prime Minister Xavier Bettel's decision to bring additional restrictions on how many people can get together and the closure of bars, restaurants and fitness centres.
