Romain Schneider, Social Security Minister, presented a draft plan last Friday to extend the period of medical leave from the current 52 to 78 weeks.
The six-month extension could be applied under certain conditions, a proposal that the union rejects because an employee is automatically disassociated from social security in Luxembourg if they are ill for 52 weeks.
Speaking to Radio Latina, LCGB's trade union secretary Christoph Knebbler stated that the proposal is a "state of grace" for people suffering from prolonged and serious illness and who can not afford to spend time and energy on bureaucracies.
The union official calls the government's solution "inhumane" and continues to demand the end of the 52-week low deadline.
Some time in the next two weeks, trade unions, employers' organisations and the government, will meet again to discuss the proposed reform further.
