In a recent interview, Michael Clauss, Germany's ambassador to China, explains how the two countries are committed to the common objectives of deepening and strengthening globalisation, defending the Paris climate agreement and sharing an interest in "promoting a rule-based, global, free-trade system with a strong WTO at its centre".
The tone echoes that of the speech of the Chinese president Xi Jinping during the World Economic Forum at Davos in early 2017, when he firmly defended globalisation against the protectionist and nationalist attitudes gathering momentum at the time.
